Usage & Licensing

Your pattern commission includes a commercial brand license — meaning you can use your pattern for:

    • One completed colorway

    This license allows you to use the pattern for:

  • Final pricing depends on the number of illustrated elements, pattern complexity, and the type of products the pattern will appear on. Because this artwork will be used on goods for resale, expanded usage rights and production considerations are factored into the final quote.

    This option includes everything in the standard commission, plus expanded usage rights for products and goods for sale.

    In addition to brand and marketing use, this license allows the pattern to be used for:

    • Merchandise and retail products

    • Fabric and textiles

    • Wallpaper

    • Product packaging for items sold to customers

    • Limited production runs

    This is ideal for makers, shops, interior designers, and brands planning to apply the pattern to physical goods or product lines.

    Because the artwork is being used to create items for resale, expanded usage rights are required.

  • Final pricing depends on illustration complexity, pattern detail, and the full transfer of intellectual property rights. Because ownership of the artwork is being transferred permanently, pricing reflects both the design work and the value of the intellectual property itself.

    This option transfers full ownership of the artwork to you.

    You receive:

    • All artwork and pattern files

    • Exclusive rights to use the pattern however you wish

    • No usage restrictions

    • The ability to manufacture, license, reproduce, or adapt the artwork indefinitely

    This is best suited for brands or companies who want complete control of the artwork as a long-term asset.

    Buyout pricing reflects the transfer of intellectual property rights in addition to the design work itself.

  • Most custom pattern commissions take 4–8 weeks from our initial planning call to final delivery.

    This timeline allows for:

    • Discovery and creative planning

    • Sketch development and review

    • Custom illustration work

    • Pattern assembly and testing

    • File preparation and final approvals

    Patterns with more detailed illustration, tighter repeat structures, or expanded usage needs may require additional time. You’ll always receive a clear timeline at the start of the project.

  • You’ll review initial sketch planning before illustration begins, and you’ll have an opportunity to provide one round of feedback on the direction.

    Because the process is collaborative and structured from the start, revisions are typically minimal and focused. Additional rounds of revision beyond the agreed scope can be added if needed.

  • You’ll receive a complete set of professional, ready-to-use files, including:

    • Editable vector artwork (.AI / .EPS)

    • Print-ready PDFs

    • High-resolution PNG and JPG files

    • A tested repeat tile ready for production

    Files are prepared for both print and digital use so you can confidently apply the pattern wherever you need it.

  • Yes. Your pattern will be designed with your brand palette or a new palette we define together during planning.

    One completed colorway is included, and additional colorways can be added as a separate cost if needed.

  • Yes — if you select either Extended Product Usage or Full Buyout / Ownership.

    • Extended Product Usage allows the pattern to be used on merchandise, fabric, wallpaper, packaging for products sold to customers, and other goods for resale.

    • Full Buyout / Ownership also allows unrestricted product use, since ownership of the artwork is transferred to you completely.

    The Brand & Marketing Usage option is designed for digital, marketing, print, and environmental brand applications ONLY and does not include use on products for resale.

  • With both Brand & Marketing Usage and Extended Product Usage, you are purchasing a license to use the pattern — not ownership of the artwork itself.

    What you can do depends on the usage option you select:

    • Brand & Marketing Usage allows the pattern to be used for digital, marketing, print, and environmental brand applications. It does not allow use on products for sale.

    • Extended Product Usage includes everything above and allows the pattern to be used on products and goods for resale.

    In both cases, the artwork cannot be resold, redistributed, or licensed to others.

    As the artist, I retain ownership of the artwork and the right to display the work in my portfolio, share it for promotional purposes, and retain authorship of the illustration.

    If you want to own the artwork completely with no restrictions, the Full Buyout / Ownership option transfers full rights of the artwork to you permanently.

  • No problem. You can upgrade your usage at any time.

    If you originally purchased Brand & Marketing Usage and later decide you’d like to apply the pattern to products for sale, you can upgrade to Extended Product Usage. You’ll simply pay the difference between the two usage options — there’s no need to recreate the artwork.

    If you later decide you’d prefer to fully own the artwork, you can also upgrade to the Full Buyout / Ownership option.

    This flexibility allows you to start with what you need now and expand your usage later if your plans change.

  • Each pattern includes up to 10 custom illustrated vignette elements. These can range from simple icons to more detailed drawings depending on your vision and needs.

    During the planning phase, we’ll define the right level of detail so the pattern works beautifully at repeat scale and in its intended applications.

  • Yes. Additional illustrated elements can be added to the project if needed. This may affect the final timeline and pricing depending on the level of detail and complexity.

  • Yes. One completed colorway is included. Additional colorways can be created if you need variations for different applications or seasons.

  • Yes. You’ll review sketch planning and layout concepts before the final illustration work begins. This ensures we’re aligned on direction early in the process.

  • Absolutely. Your pattern can be designed to align with your current brand identity, or we can develop a new visual direction that complements your space, products, or materials.

  • Yes. Your custom pattern is created specifically for you and will not be resold or reused for other clients.

  • Yes. The pattern is built as a seamless repeat and tested for scale, making it suitable for large applications such as wallpaper, murals, and environmental graphics.

  • Rush timelines may be possible depending on current workload. This can be discussed after your inquiry is reviewed.
